Continuing Professional Competency (CPC) is the Director of the Division of Professions and Occupations’ program through which a licensee will be able to satisfy continuing competency requirements in order to renew a license. For each renewal period, the CPD program will consist of the following elements:

  • A Reflective Self-Assessment Tool (RSAT) and establishment of learning goals
  • Execution of a Learning Plan; AND
  • Accrual and documentation of 24 Professional Development Activities (PDA). Retain documentation in the event of an audit of compliance.

PDA are learning activities undertaken to increase a licensee’s knowledge and skill or hone existing knowledge and skill for the purpose of continuing professional competency. PDA are equal to clock hours; one PDA is equal to one clock hour (60 minutes). PDA are organized into 8 categories: Coursework, Fieldwork Supervision, Group Study, Independent Learning, Mentoring, Presentations, Publishing, and Volunteer Service. A licensee must accrue a total of 24 PDA each renewal period. PDA must be earned through a minimum of 2 categories; no more than 12 PDA will be credited in any one category. Review the Program Manual for complete descriptions of the categories.

The Director does not preapprove specific courses or providers. A licensee will plan PDA to meet his/her Learning Plan and goals and select an appropriate provider(s). PDA must be relevant to occupational therapy and pertinent to Learning Plan and goals. All PDA must be completed during the renewal period and will only count for one renewal period. See the Program Manual for a list of required criteria for PDA.
