Minnesota Dental Board’s Continuing Education Regulations:

The minimum number of hours required for each biennial cycle:

  • Dentists – 50 CE’s for relicensure. All can be home study.
  • Registered Dental Hygienists – 25 CE’s for relicensure. All can be home study.
  • Registered Dental Assistants – 25 CE’s for relicensure. All can be home study.
  • All dental professionals are required to complete 2 core courses which include of Infection Control and Ethics.
  • Licenses must be renewed every 2 years.
  • A minimum of two (2) courses must be completed in two different core subject areas per biennial (Infection control, Record keeping, Ethics, Management of medical emergencies, Patient communications, Diagnosis and treatment)

Fundamental courses: content directly related to dentistry

  • Core subjects (mandatory, 2 different core subject areas required per biennial cycle)
  • Recordkeeping
  • Ethics
  • Patient communication
  • Management of medical emergencies
  • Diagnosis and treatment planning
  • CPR (mandatory)
  • Infection control (mandatory)
  • Self-assessment (mandatory)
  • Online courses or home-study (must include a post-test)
  • Lectures, symposiums, or seminars
  • Study clubs
  • College courses (1 college credit = 1 CE credit)
    All credits for Professional Development may be earned in the Fundamental course category.
