Description
This course (Bloodborne Pathogens for Tattoo Artists and Piercers) provides customized body art industry-specific training as mandated by OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29CFR 1910.1030). Bloodborne Pathogens for Tattoo Artists and Piercers course is designed by an experienced professional working with the body art industry and public health. The material covered in this comprehensive course includes body art industry-specific information on preventing transmission of bloodborne pathogens and other contagious diseases.
Upon completion of this course (Bloodborne Pathogens for Tattoo Artists and Piercers), you will be able to:
- Review the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard 29 CFR 1910.1030.
- Discuss the transmission, control, and symptoms of the diseases caused by bloodborne pathogens.
- Discuss the tasks involved in performing body art and how those tasks may expose the client or practitioner to bloodborne pathogens.
- Discuss the types and uses of Personal Protective Equipment (i.e., gloves, aprons, bibs, masks, and eye protection), their limitations, proper task technique, and the order of tasks before and after putting on and removing Personal Protective Equipment to avoid contamination.
- Discuss the importance of hand hygiene and demonstrate proper hand hygiene techniques.
- Discuss the choice, use, and storage of disinfectants and antiseptics specific to Bloodborne Pathogen diseases.
- Discuss the signage required for biohazard materials and the importance of properly labeling chemicals and supplies.
Review information on the hepatitis B vaccine, including safety and accessibility. - Discuss what constitutes a bloodborne pathogen exposure incident and the procedure to follow after an exposure incident, including medical follow-up. Also, discuss what actions to take to prevent or minimize future exposures.
Course Format: Online Independent Self-Study Course (Need Computer & Internet).
