Dental Management of Patients With Increased Bleeding Risk – 5 Hours

$45.00

Description

The number of elderly patients seeking dental services is increasing due to the rise in life expectancy and chronic medical conditions. One such condition is the use of antiplatelet medication. Dentists are concerned about the risk of bleeding after minor oral surgery in patients taking antiplatelet agents. Therefore, it’s important to weigh the risks and benefits of such medication before initiating dental procedures. A treatment guideline should be established to optimize the management of dental patients on antiplatelet medication. The purpose of this course is to standardize the treatment protocol for patients with antiplatelet medication in order to improve their dental care.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Outline the various classes of antiplatelets
  • Discuss the pharmacology of the antiplatelet agents
  • Outline the structure of the platelets
  • List the functions of platelets
  • Describe the process of clotting
  • Outline how antiplatelet drugs are associated with bleeding risks
  • Explain how to prevent and control bleeding when using antiplatelets
  • Discuss bleeding complications associated with antiplatelet agents
  • Discuss the medical/dental management strategies for patients taking antiplatelets.
  • Discuss treatment plans (assessment, diagnosis, plan, implementation, and evaluation) that provide safety and comfort for managing patients with bleeding disorders in the dental environment.
