Description
As more and more people use supplements, healthcare professionals need to inform patients about the potential for drug-supplement interactions. Pharmacists should be capable of identifying patients who are at the highest risk. Risk factors for negative outcomes from drug interactions include the use of multiple medications and/or supplements, older age, insufficient liver or kidney function, and the use of medications with narrow therapeutic indexes. Patients with these risk factors should be targeted for interventions to prevent drug interactions with supplements.
