Description
This course aims to provide an overview of the human body’s autonomic nervous system, which includes the sympathetic, parasympathetic, and enteric nervous systems. It covers the mechanisms, signs, symptoms, causes, and evaluation of dysautonomia and presents multidisciplinary guidelines and therapeutic approaches for caring for patients with dysautonomia. Additionally, the course reviews the symptoms, effects, and treatment options of various pathophysiological disorders associated with dysautonomia.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the structure and function of the autonomic nervous system.
- Understand and relate the differences between sympathetic, parasympathetic, and enteric nervous systems.

- Discuss the mechanisms, signs, symptoms, causes, and evaluation of Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).
- Discuss Guillain-Barre syndrome’s mechanisms, signs, symptoms, causes, and evaluation.
- Discuss the mechanisms, signs, symptoms, causes, and evaluation of Familial Dysautonomia.
- Describe treatment guidelines for dysautonomia.
- List nursing processes in caring for patients with dysautonomia
- List physical therapy considerations when caring for patients with dysautonomia.
- Identify ways to diagnose dysautonomia.
