Description
This continuing education course (Hepatitis Infection Clinical Implications in Dental Practice) is intended for all dental healthcare professionals. The risk of cross transmission between dental healthcare workers and patients is considered significant, particularly sharp injuries occur because of a small operating field, frequent patient movement, and the variety of sharp instruments used in dental procedure. This course will increase awareness and understanding by dental health personnel in the matter of viral hepatitis in terms of clinical and asymptomatic disease, transmission, diagnostic tests, treatment, prophylaxis, and prevention through infection control, with major emphasis on hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to learn:
- Define hepatitis and understand the various forms of hepatitis.
- Describe the etiology, transmission, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, prophylaxis, and precautions for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, hepatitis D, hepatitis E, and hepatitis Non A-E.
- List and discuss the laboratory markers that are utilized in the diagnosis of various hepatitis virus.
- Identify risk factors for hepatitis virus.
- Discuss the clinical course of hepatitis infection.
- Transmission risks for dental health professionals.
- Infection control recommendation for dental professionals when treating patients.
