Description
The acute and chronic leukemias are aggressive malignancies that originate in a hematopoietic stem cell and are rapidly fatal without immediate treatment. Although acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) remains a devastating illness, a significant portion of patients can now be cured with intensive chemotherapy. The purpose of this course is to define leukemia, describe current treatment, and describe the characteristics, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment for the primary types of leukemia. This course will provide a basic overview of Leukemia focusing on strategies for diagnosis and patient management but will also highlight risk factors and prevention strategies.
