Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common condition that affects many patients living in the United States and worldwide. Thus, healthcare professionals should understand patient care related to irritable bowel syndrome to improve patient outcomes and treatment adherence. Important components include IBS subtypes, signs and symptoms, diagnostic tests, and treatment. There are many different treatment options, which depend on the patient’s predominant IBS subtype. The Management of Irritable Bowel Syndrome course reviews the statistics, groups at increased risk for IBS, risk factors, comorbid conditions, and IBS subtypes. It also discusses IBS pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic testing, and treatment and management of this complex condition.
