Description
As the number of older people with frailty increases worldwide, improving their nutrition and reducing the risk of malnutrition and poor health is becoming more critical. However, identifying those at risk is challenging due to various factors, such as difficulty in reaching and screening older people, the use of multiple nutritional assessment tools, and lack of consensus on the criteria to diagnose malnutrition. Managing older people with or at risk of malnutrition should involve a multi-modal and multi-disciplinary approach, and all care staff should play a crucial role in providing appropriate nutritional advice and support. This continuing education course offers practical strategies for healthcare professionals to manage nutritional challenges in older people.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify nutrition risk factors among older people and provide appropriate interventions to reduce the prevalence of malnutrition.
- Provide nutrition intervention that is appropriate for chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and Alzheimer’s disease.
- Increase their awareness of the potential interaction between herbal supplements and conventional medicine.
