This course provides an overview of multidimensional factors, perspectives, and approaches associated with mental illness. It surveys major perspectives and reviews the history of the perception of mental disorder in today’s society. Identification, diagnosis, therapeutic approaches, and institutional responses within the context of social work practice, values, and ethics are discussed. Symptoms, effects, and treatment options of different mental health disorders are studied. Medical, legal, and social issues related to mental health and the treatment of people with mental disorders are also addressed.
