Suicide Prevention Training for Healthcare Providers course reviews relevant etiology, terminology and statistics related to suicide, including the increasing prevalence of healthcare worker suicide. This course will also examine the risk factors for suicide and the clinical manifestations of burnout, compassion fatigue (CF), and secondary traumatic stress (STS) in healthcare workers. Finally, this course will review screening for suicide and prevention strategies that can reduce the incidence of suicide, specifically for healthcare workers.
Upon completion of this course, participant will be able to:

- List process of screening ad assessment to determine risk for suicide.

Kentucky: This course fulfills the Kentucky Board of Nursing’s Mandatory Suicide Prevention Training Requirements. Effective January 13, 2022, per 201 KAR 20:215 all nurses must complete mandatory continuing education in suicide prevention and implicit bias.
Connecticut: Registered nurses and licensed practical nurses actively practicing in Connecticut and applying for license renewal after January 1, 2022, and once every six years thereafter, are required to complete two contact hours of training or education on (1) screening for conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, risk of suicide, depression and grief, and (2) suicide prevention training. One contact hour is defined as at least 50 minutes of instruction.
Nevada: The Nevada Nurse Practice Act requires APRNs to take an additional 15 CEs directly related to their specialties to include a 2 hour suicide prevention course completed every 4 years, a 2 hour substance use and abuse course completed every renewal cycle, and maintain a portfolio pursuant to NAC 632.2563.
Tennessee: Occupational Therapists will be required to complete suicide prevention training prior to initial licensure and then once every four* years (every two renewal cycles). This is counted in your total number of required CE, and is not in addition to the current requirement of 24 hours. The current language only requires that Occupational Therapists, not Occupational Therapy Assistants, complete this training.
