Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Rehabilitation and Repair – 5 Hours

$40.00

Description

ACL tears are a frequent injury among athletes and recreational enthusiasts during sports and leisure activities. In the U.S., about 200,000 ACL injuries are diagnosed annually, with women more prone to suffer from them than men. Therefore, female athletes should focus on injury prevention. ACL tears often prevent athletes from returning to their sport, highlighting the need for physical therapists to understand the injury mechanics, surgical options, and rehab procedures thoroughly. This course will prepare physical therapists with essential knowledge to care effectively for patients with ACL injuries, covering everything from initial injury to post-surgical rehab, and include strategies to prevent such injuries.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the anatomy associated with an ACL tear/injury and surgical repair/rehabilitation.
  • Describe ACL injury prevention interventions and strategies.
  • Describe the ways an ACL injury can occur.
  • Describe the differential diagnosis of an ACL tear/injury.
  • Describe pre-operative ACL rehabilitation and non-operative treatment of ACL tears.
  • Describe the surgical repair of an ACL tear.
  • Develop a postoperative rehabilitation protocol following an ACL repair, based on research, including return-to-sport criteria and testing.
  • Define ACL loading that occurs during non-weight-bearing and weight-bearing exercises that are performed during typical postoperative rehabilitation.
  • Describe the use of PRP and mesenchymal stem cells for ACL injury treatment.
  • Describe the importance of restoring knee range of motion and bi-articular muscle extensibility.
  • Describe surgical outcomes following an ACL repair and long-term prognosis.
  • Describe functional knee braces used following ACL reconstruction for return to play.
