This detailed Refresher Training Course is tailored for Florida-licensed Piercers and Operators. It concentrates on key infection-control practices, highlighting the importance of safety, sanitation, and sterilization. Participants will gain comprehensive knowledge of precautions needed to avoid transmitting infectious diseases. The course also reviews Florida’s legal requirements, ensuring operators are prepared to uphold a safe, hygienic environment in their work.
Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the purpose of the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard and the Florida Body Piercing Act, including their application to body piercing salons and the necessity for bloodborne pathogens and infection control training for piercing artists.
- Identify the minimum sanitary and safety requirements related to the design and operation of body piercing salons and temporary establishments, as defined in Section 381.0075(2), F.S. Body piercing salons must also adhere to Section 381.0075, F.S., and Chapter 64E-16, F.A.C.
- Comprehend the cross-contamination and contact transmission processes that can occur in body piercing shops.
- Recognize common bloodborne pathogens, their modes of transmission, and associated disease symptoms.
- Understand standard precautions and available personal protective equipment (PPE) to mitigate the transmission of Bloodborne Pathogens and Common Skin Infections.
- Learn the fundamental principles of infection control, sterilization, autoclave usage, and aseptic techniques used to sterilize jewelry and instruments in piercing establishments.
- Identify the appropriate steps to take following an exposure incident.
- Understand the biomedical waste disposal requirements as mandated in the State of Florida.
You must provide proof of completion of the Initial Course before taking the Refresher Course. In Florida, operators and piercers, as defined in section 381.0075, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 64E-19.002, Florida Administrative Code, respectively, must complete an Initial Formal Training Course before licensure of a body piercing salon or practicing body piercing in Florida.
After that, operators and piercers may complete an Initial Formal Training Course or a Refresher Course annually. Please note that an Initial Formal Training Course must be completed before completing a Refresher Course in accordance with section 64E-19.007, Florida Administrative Code.

Participants are required to engage with each slide for the designated amount of time to absorb the material presented fully. Upon completing the course content, you will need to take a post-test in one continuous session. Achieving a passing score on this assessment is essential to receive your PDF course completion certificate, which will be sent to you via email.
