The Ethics and Professional Responsibility course is designed to provide physical therapy professionals with a thorough understanding of their moral, ethical, and legal obligations. This comprehensive program covers essential topics, including the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Code of Ethics, a foundational framework for professional conduct, and the Standards of Ethical Conduct for Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs). To enhance decision-making skills, the curriculum introduces a structured ethical decision-making model and includes real-world case analyses, allowing participants to apply theoretical concepts to practical situations. • Define the parameters of informed consent.
• Differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate relationships.
• Define conflict of interest.
• Demonstrate through case analysis the ability to identify ethical conflicts and support a resolution to an ethical dilemma.
• Review five case studies using the RIPS Model (Realm-Individual Process-Situation) as a structured framework for ethical decision-making.
• Summarize the legislative and regulatory components of the Indiana Administrative Code and Indiana Practice Act.
