The purpose of the Ethics, Professional Responsibilities, and Indiana Jurisprudence for PTs & PTAs course is to provide physical therapists and physical therapist assistants with a theoretical basis for ethical decision-making, knowledge of the Code of Ethics and Guide for Professional Conduct of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), legal standards of behavior, and application of ethical and legal standards to real-life situations. 

Upon completion of the Ethics, Professional Responsibilities, and Indiana Jurisprudence for PTs & PTAs course, you will be able to learn: 

• Define and discuss ethical theories as they affect decision-making and promote ethical behavior – Ethical Concern
• Ethics: A Branch of Philosophy, Concepts Related to Ethics, Ethical Principles, and Ethical Dilemmas.
• Identify the components of the ethical decision-making model
• Interpret and apply the APTA’s Code of Ethics
• Interpret and apply the APTA’s Standards of Ethical Conduct for PT & PTAs
• Identify and interpret the statutes of Indiana Code Articles 25-27
• Identify and apply the regulations of Indiana Administrative Code-Title 844-Article 6
• Differentiate between ethical/unethical and legal/illegal professional behavior in Physical therapy practice
• Review current evidence for ethical decision-making and hypothetical case analysis (5 case studies are discussed during the course)
