The Ethics and Professional Responsibility (Medical Ethics) course approved by the Hawaii Physical Therapy Board is designed to help physical therapy professionals understand their moral, ethical, and legal responsibilities. The course covers important topics such as the APTA’s Code of Ethics, Standards of Ethical Conduct for the PTA, Guide for Professional Conduct for Physical Therapists and Assistants, the Hawaii State Practice Act, a model for ethical decision-making, and case analysis.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Compare & contrast the definitions of ethics, morals, and law.
- Apply the primary bioethical pillars of medicine to their own clinical practice.
- Cite and support the Code of Ethics of their respective governing bodies.
- Examine common infringements of ethical standards in their own clinical settings.
- Assess their own clinical decision-making based on the standards of medical ethics.
