The “Validating Prescriptions for Controlled Substances” continuing education course is designed to equip pharmacists with the essential knowledge and skills to ensure that patients who truly require medications have access to safe, legal prescriptions. • Describe the use of a Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).
• Discuss the assessment of prescriptions for appropriate therapeutic value.
• Determine if prescriptions are based on a legitimate medical purpose.
• Identify the federal guidelines that impact the distribution of controlled substances.
• Discuss the State’s Laws and rules regarding prescribing & dispensing of controlled substances.
• Counsel patients with opioid prescriptions.
• Discuss available treatment resources for opioid physical dependence, addiction, misuse, or abuse.
