Texas Physical Therapy CEU Requirements

Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners Continuing Education Requirements (Click Here):

Approval: Biologix Solutions LLC is a Texas Physical Therapy Association (APS#: 2701042TX) Approved Provider – All activity provided by Biologix Solutions meets continuing competence requirements for physical therapist and physical therapist assistant licensure renewal in Texas. The assignment of Texas PT CCUs does not imply endorsement of specific course content, products, or clinical procedures by TPTA or TBPTE.

Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners mandates that Texas Physical Therapy Licensees (PTs and PTAs) are legally required to complete continuing competence (CC) activities to maintain professional licensure – for PTs, 30 units (CCUs) during each two-year renewal cycle, for PTAs, 20 units (CCUs).  All licensees must complete the Jurisprudence Assessment Module (TX JAM) as part of their total continuing competence requirements.

Do I have to take 2 hours of ethics/professional responsibility every time I renew? Can I take an approved course more than once? TX Jurisprudence Assessment Module (TX JAM)

The Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners (PT Board) rolled out a new Texas Jurisprudence Assessment Module (TX JAM) on June 1, 2017. The TX JAM is an interactive online learning assessment that will evaluate a licensee’s knowledge of the state rules and regulations governing the practice of physical therapy as well as ethical principles and decision making.

Licensees who complete their renewal on or after June 1, 2017, will be required to take the new TX Jurisprudence Assessment Module (TX JAM) which will replace both the JP Exam and the ethics/professional responsibility requirement. An approved ethics course that has already been taken within the renewal period can still be counted toward the total number of required CCUs for those licensees renewing on or after June 1, 2017.

With the implementation of the new TX Jurisprudence Assessment Module (TX JAM), approval of courses to specifically meet an ethics/professional responsibility requirement will no longer be needed. the TX Jam will replace both the current Jurisprudence (JP) Exam and the ethics/professional responsibility requirement for individuals renewing either their PT or PTA license.

Human Trafficking Prevention Training

New Renewal Requirement Effective September 1, 2020:  Texas Physical Therapy Licensees (PTs and PTAs) who renew their license on or after 9/01/2020, a minimum of 1 CCU of approved Human Trafficking Prevention Training will be required regardless of their license expiration date.

This requirement pertains to active licensees who are renewing their license either timely or late, individuals who are restoring their license, licensees on inactive status who are returning to active status, and licensees who are performing voluntary charity care on retired status who are renewing their license.

If a license is renewed online or by mail prior to 9/01/2020 even though the license expiration date is after 9/01/2020, the Human Trafficking Prevention Training will not be required for the renewal period.

Only courses approved by the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) qualify for meeting the Human Trafficking Prevention Training requirement. However, CCUs for courses on human trafficking that are approved through the Continuing Competence Approval Program (CCAP) or are provided by a TX Accredited Provider can apply toward the total CCU renewal requirement but will not meet the Human Trafficking Prevention Training requirement.
Courses approved through HHSC may or may not reflect physical therapy CCU credit. Equivalency is determined by 1 contact hour equals 1 CCU. The credit can be applied toward the total number of required CCUs for renewal.

Instructions for entering the course on the Continuing Competence Activity Summary will be available during the online renewal process starting September 1, 2020.
